A Pleasant Surprise

One afternoon while we were reading in our chapter book Etta fell asleep on me.

This is quite an anomaly. Not, "Well, it was nice because she hasn't fallen asleep on me since she was a baby" but, "Holy cow! She never falls asleep on me. Ever. Even when she was a baby".

But we were cuddled in pretty good (it was "A Long [cold] Winter" on the prairie after all). But I needed to get up and be productive (after a short nap of my own) and she mumbled, "I just want to sleep here". And an hour and a half (!!!) later she was ready to go again.

Even when you are almost four sometimes you just have to take a rest.

Choir

On Wednesdays we head to McGhee so that I can accompany Bob's choir. The girls really enjoy themselves.

Etta spends time reading and/or coloring.

And Mae spends most of her time looking cute and distracting all of the girls.

Thanks Aunt Molly!

or - "A photo time line of getting one "good" picture of two small girls in new shirts".

Emily: Okay girls! Let's try to get a good picture of you in your matching shirts to put on the blog for Aunt Molly. Let's try it here by the door. Stand up over here. (Shuffle, shuffle, shuffle)Or *sit* over here by the door.

No Mae! Don't put your finger in your nose!

No!! Not both fingers!!! (Etta is helping, "No Mae! Icky no picky!")

Mae: Tee-hee, I'm so funny!

Emily: Okay, let's try standing up again. Mae, really? You can't stand up for a minute? No Etta, let go of sister's head!

Op! Here comes Michelle to get the eggs! I guess this photo session is over and this pic is good enough...

Thanks for the shirts Aunt Molly!! The girls look really great in them. Will you be here this spring or summer to see them in person? ;) And Mae also has on one of her pair of fleece lined pants that you got her. Has to stay toasty in our freezing house!

Wednesday Playdate

On Wednesdays Ronan comes over for some play time. What is everyone's favorite part of play time? Pirate's Bootie of course! And due to its popularity we need to get some more.

(And getting a good picture of everyone at the same time? Nearly impossible.)

Playing Together...

Finally.

It's been a long road, but the girls are finally (kind of) playing together. And not necessarily fighting the entire time. There may be hope for them yet!

Babies in a basket. Well, according to Etta she is NOT a baby. But the alliteration was better this way.

Playing "Subway" while I was vacuuming. Not quite anything like sitting in a chair for awhile doing nothing. Although I did convince Etta that people read the paper while they ride on the subway, so I at least got to do that!

Pre-School Preview Day!

Today is Pre-School Preview Day at Beacon. Etta is there right now. So different being back to one baby for an afternoon nap. I was quite productive for the first 90 minutes and now...well, updating the blog (which Erik says has not been updated for a MONTH) is productive, right?

We went up to McGhee and had lunch with Bob so that he could join us in dropping Etta off for her first whole afternoon of school all. by. herself.

At this point she was looking around for "her boys" (the 4 boys in her "class" when I teach band on Tuesdays and Thursdays). She said, "I thought my boys would be here. Their stuff is here". They got to go into the 1st grade room for their own preview day today. There are going to be mostly girls in her class this fall and I think that she is a little disappointed.

When we were still in the car in the parking lot I asked her if I could take her picture. "Maybe you can do that at home Mommy". She did relent once we got inside.

Mae is also ready to go to school! She was very confused today because it was NOT a normal Beacon day. She wanted to stay and get out all of "her" stuff.

Two of her soon-to-be classmates. Zane and Angie. Zane had on a shirt with a dalmation wearing a fire hat. Etta pointed and said, "I really like your shirt!" And they were starting to play trains. I think that things are going to go really well.

I am very glad that she has been going to Beacon with me this year. She is very comfortable with the teacher and the surroundings. I'm sure that she will make new friends quickly and really enjoy her time there!
