Montana Grandma

My folks came for a weekend visit. Friday night my dad took in the LHS football game with Bob. Saturday we went to the Moscow Farmer's Market and a fall festival at The Red Barn Farms (among a few other things...). Sunday after church Grandma Cathy babysat and we all went to The Phantom of the Opera in Spokane with Matt & Christine. My folks headed back toward Montana this morning. It was a wonderful, whirlwind visit. (Are there any other kinds?) Etta and I will spend a few days recovering. I'm going to do multiple posts to try to capture the weekend. Here is the first with a variety of shots with Montana Grandma.

Rice cereal!

We were going to wait for a Saturday so Bob could be present for Etta's first taste of solid food. But things hadn't been working out and I got to looking at the calendar and figured that she would be four before we would have a nice, clear Saturday. So I bit the bullet, got everything set up and fed her cereal myself. I waited until after her long afternoon nap when I figured she would be really hungry. I guess that it worked because she loved it! It was not nearly as messy as I thought it was going to be and she only blew bubbles a few times at the begining. I couldn't feed her fast enough and she would lunge for the spoon each time. Every day she has actually eaten a bit more and I am happy with the results. We are in no big hurry for her to try lots of different food so for now I am just doing one cereal feeding a day. I know that things will change as she grows but I am going to keep a positive outlook.

Here are some pictures of our first adventure.

Waiting for dinner.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm........

Not a thumb sucker

Although she's tricky because it looks like she's sucking her thumb. Actually it's that pointer finger that seems so tasty.

5 months and new tricks...

...I mean milestones. Yesterday was Etta's 5th month annibirthery as I am calling them now. Over the past week she has really started sitting up better. Still pretty tippy - and if she tries to look around at all, over she goes - but really progressing. And lately she has started really rolling side-to-side, almost going over, but that stinkin' arm keeps getting in the way.

On Saturday morning she made it all the way over (back to tummy) when both Bob and I were watching. I left during her afternoon nap to run a couple of errands. When Bob called me to touch base he let me know that she was rolling like a champ! I'm with her all the time...he's with her for 45-minutes of awake time...and he gets the first real rolls? Really? Are you kidding me? But it's okay. I'm sure that I will get my fair share of rolling and will get tired of it soon enough.

*Note - no pictures of rolling (of course) and I'm having problems getting my camcorder to upload to my computer.*

Dear Aunt Molly,

Thanks for the new clothes. I have already worn two pair of pants, the monkey sleeper and the jacket. It is so great that I have a wonderful, generous aunt like you. Can't wait to see you when you get home!

Love,
Etta

I'm the cutest girl in the hood!

Footie jammies are my favorite.

Yay monkeys!
